Welcome to the August edition of the MX5 Club Qld Rapid Rundown. I hope you find this update is an informative and interesting way to keep you informed as to what has been happening around the club.
Upcoming events
I know I say it every month, but it really is a big month ahead for the club with multiple weekend and midweek events starting with the Gold Coast chapter’s Yamba long weekend run starting off Friday the 30th and running through until Monday 2nd. Unfortunately, it’s fully subscribed for this year, but I am sure we will get a full a report on all the fun over the weekend in the next Rag Top Review.
In addition to the Yamba long weekend run, this weekend also has the Sunshine Coast’s Nambour – Kenilworth – Cooroy run, as well as the ICC khanacross Motorsport event at Queensland Raceway, both taking place on Father’s Day the 1st of September.
We also have the usual Brisbane, Toowoomba and Gold Coast runs and in addition, there are more ICC events for September.
On top of all this we have a driver training day, for which our Motorsport Chapter leader Henri has been working hard with Lakeside Park raceway to organise on their driver training facility which is now locked in for the 25th of September. On the day members will be able to take part in driving training with experienced instructors as well as time on the famous Lakeside Raceway after the training. I am sure it is going to be a magnificent event and recommend all members who would like to take part to register your interest ASAP. For details and additional information on all of the runs and events go to the club’s homepage where members can register to attend. I encourage everyone to think about taking up this opportunity. It is important but also a lot of enjoyment!
What has been happening around the club?
The last month was incredibly busy with all chapters holding runs and events. The big one for the month and the second biggest event for the club this year was McLeans Bridge Car Show held at the Caboolture airfield on Sunday 14 July. While it was only a one-day event it took over a year of organising and planning with our event partners TSOAQ and the Caboolture Aero Club. On the day we had over five hundred display cars entered and over four hundred visitor’s cars that attended, which for our first event, we believe is a great result. A huge shout out to the more than eighty club members who attended on the day as well as all the volunteers and organising committee who helped to make it a magnificent event. We are looking forward to making it bigger and better next year and one of the club’s signature annual-events over the next 5 years. We featured strongly in a
YouTube Coverage.
We also took part in the Brisbane Exhibition’s annual parade with ten cars participating driving the winning regional showgirls around the Ekka’s main arena on the first Saturday of the show. Unfortunately, the annual Ekka event of driving around the arena on exhibition Wednesday as part of the Grand Parade was cancelled due to severe weather but hopefully, we can participate again next year.
The last month has also been big for our Motorsport Chapter with eighteen club members attending the annual ICC BMW regularity charity-event at Lakeside. At the end of the day, it was a fantastic result for the club with Alan Hitchcock coming in second outright on the day out of fifty-five competitors and the club having six of the top ten. The Club is now tied with the Porshe club on points for this year’s ICC trophy and Robert Mills is running in fourth place outright for the ICC individual championship.
In the last month you would have received a membership survey. Thanks to all of you who completed the survey. We had over 80 responses – which is fantastic. The Committee is working through all of the data and information received. The key results of the survey will be implemented over the coming months and leading into the club’s Annual General Meeting. One thing the committee noted was the strong response from members regarding the questions of assisting the club and the committee if they were asked to do so. Well for those who said they would be prepared to assist, now is your chance. As the survey was anonymous, we are asking everyone who would like to assist the club and or the committee to email
business@mx5clubqld.com.au with your details so I can get in touch with you directly.
I'll provide a summary of the survey insights in the coming weeks.
Happy driving and see you at the next event!
