Mt Mee to MBBC

Welcome to the first edition of the MX5 Club Qld rapid rundown for 2025. As we are quickly heading into the third month of 2025 we wanted to keep you informed about some of the club events that have already taken place and upcoming events.

Recent events around the club

Firstly we hope everyone had a great Christmas and new year. As normal January a quite month for the club but the Sunshine Coast Chapter did hold a monthly cars and coffee at The Green in Tanawha.

With our runs calendar the Sunshine Coast was the first chapter out of the gate with a 2025 run on 2nd February with 'Winding to Woombye' via Conondale which had a great turnout with 27 cars. Many members were sporting their new club T-Shirts, sourced through our very capable Regalia Officer Lori Davis.

A week later the Brisbane chapter kicked off the year with an afternoon run from Mt Mee to Moreton Bay Boat Club. A contingent of 34 cars made the run the Pit Stop Café at Mt Mee down through Caboolture west and Deception Bay to the Moreton Bay Boat Club in Scarborough for dinner on the deck overlooking the marina.

Toowoomba started the year with a lunch meet at the Withcott Hotel and the all the fun of Go-karts at Adrenaline sports next door.

To close out February the gold coast held its 19th Hole run from Mudgeeraba through the hinterland and ending at the Coolangatta Tweed Head golf club for lunch, with a turnout of 32 cars and 49 members. The Gold Coast has also packed in a Meet & Eat and a Movie Night to see Flight Risk with Mark Wahlberg.

Looking Ahead

March kicked off with a Sunshine Coast run, but Cyclone Alfred has caused a some disruption to plans, and the Brisbane Chapter has pushed the March Mountains to the Dams Run to April 13th, and rescheduled the back to the future Brissie Brews & Bites event a couple of weeks further into the future on Friday 21st March at Club Southside Mt Gravatt from 6pm.

The Gold Coast is doing its Merry go Round run on Sunday 23 March.

The motorsport chapter has the first ICC event for 2025 with Go-karts at Kingston Park Raceway on 15th March, and club members are also invited to BMWCQ sprint day at Lakeside on Friday March 2028.

Committee Business

The 2025 Committee had a foundation meeting in January getting together in the real world at the Salisbury Hotel to get to know one another a little better, and to explore the status of the Membership Rules & By Laws project. It was a really positive meeting and the club is well supported with a very engaged committee of very capable members. The new committee will meet again for a dedicated meeting on the membership issues on April 12th after a few key members return from trips away. We'll be planning Town Hall Meetings with the Chapters following that.

In Toowoomba Chapter news Chapter Leaders Allan and Rachel Baskerville have had to offer their resignation from their roles to deal with some continuing health issues, that understandably require some creation of space in their lives. The club thanks Allan and Rachel for their dedication to the Chapter over the last couple of years, and particularly their support for hosting NatMeet XV. Allan and Rachel will continue as active chapter members, but there is an opening now for others to step into Chapter leadership.

Final thoughts

Well the year has certainly started strongly with great very well attended events. Many of the attendees in the first events for the year are new club members. This is really great to see and a real sign of how strong the interest in the MX5 is and that fellow owners are looking to join the club and have great experiences with like-minded car enthusiasts.

On a personal note, my wee 'Beastie' after my unfortunate woopsie at Lakeside in October has come to the head of the queue at the restorers it went to in December and should hopefully emerge over the next month or so good as new, with my pocket lightened more than a tad. I am excited to get him back, and to get back amongst you all.

Don’t forget we have lots of upcoming events and they can all be accessed by going to the calendar on the club’s website

Happy driving and see you at the next event!
